Claudia Braun

Claudia Braun is an interdisciplinary artist, using any and all mediums she can get her hands on in order to create pieces known for being mystical and introspective. Her current study heavily involves relearning movement in dance, the color and form of her childhood home, and the exploration of deer as a metaphor for internal and external human relationships. Braun is from Cleveland, Ohio, and graduating from Columbia College Chicago (25') with a BA in fine arts and minor in video production. Her work has been shown at multiple galleries over the years during her time in Chicago.

Statement

Working mostly in painting, sculpting, and mixed media, Claudia strives to create immersive pieces that sparkcuriosity. She incorporates found materials heavily into her process, yet is always searching for new practices to create handmade pieces to pair with them. Her work is haunting and nostalgic, using her internal processof memory and connection as direct inspiration. Through an abstract approach, shedepicts scenes between family, friends, locations, and herself. All of which areworking to become a part of a personal diary, where her different insecurities and fondmemories combine to create a diverse portfolio.

Current Study

This year Ifound major sources of inspiration from three spaces. Movement/dance, deer, andmy childhood home that my dad is planning to sell this summer. All of thesethemes are heavily reoccurring in my pieces, where I depict scenes of past andpresent in a constant eb and flow. I commonly attempt to combine these pointsof view in order to convey more complex visual experiences for the audience. Iuse bright colors, purple being the most significant, and a wide range ofmediums on a need-to-know basis. I intend for all of the works I complete toleave the audience with a sense of wonder, and abstract enough in their formthat the viewers create their own opinion on what the pieces mean to them.Because even though these three indicators have specific meanings to me, I feelthat what each of them reflect generally (movement=raw active emotion, deer=metaphoric representation of change and conditional love, purplehouse=loss and/in memory) can resonate with a wide audience in the diverse waysthat I use them.
